I had a fun weekend. Saturday morning I went shopping with Mom, which started off rather traumatically as I had to spend $300 for another carpet shampooer. It seems that only weeks ago when I bought one for $200, the lower cost was because the model was being discontinued, so now it’s even more expensive. Oh, YAY. For that much money, I think it ought to come with a gnome that cleans the carpet for you. To make me feel better, Mom bought me some Lancome cosmetics at Dillard’s, some earrings and this choker. The picture shows a pink one, but my choker is a pretty purple, kinda like this - I couldn't find a picture of the purple one but you get the idea.
We ate lunch at Olive Garden, which was nice because we were having lunch together, but it was also a big deal because about three weeks ago, Mom had to have oral surgery. Since then, she’s been on a forced diet of yogurt, broth, yogurt, sodden bread dipped in broth, soup, yogurt and...well, yogurt. We felt pretty sure that her mouth had healed enough for her to eat cheese or mushroom ravioli if she cut it small, and she could! It was quite a treat for her to have some real food after so long.
That evening, Alan and I went to Athens for dinner with Mark and Nancy. I enjoyed being around Mark, which was kinda new for me as he’s usually working or staying with Anthony while Nancy and I seek amusement. He’s very smart with a sharp and witty sense of humour, so it was fun to hang out with him. Nancy made a great lasagna accompanied by salad with homemade bleu cheese dressing, yum! Following dinner, Alan and I went downtown to hear my brother’s rock band ("The American Gigolos", ha ha ha ha ha) compete in a Battle of the Bands. I think it’s great that Bo is playing some straight-up, fun rock music for a change. He’s at the tail end of work on his PhD in music (performance and composition) so for quite some time now, everything he does - from transcribing a piece to playing more than six notes in succession - is scrutinized, examined, dissected, critiqued and analyzed. I think it’s good for him to do something musically that’s just pure and simple fun. They sounded good, too. I don’t know if they won yet or not; I called to ask but he returned my call while attending last night’s Rush concert. However, I can report that Lee, Lifeson and Peart are in top form and sounding damn fine.

helly's mom says, "Olive Garden lunch was absolutely wonderful! I cannot remember when I've enjoyed anything so much - having lunch with Helly is always a highlight, but eating something other than yogurt was a real treat indeed! Today, for lunch, I had the pinto bean/frijoles refritos at Taco Hell. With grated cheese and hot sauce. That was good, too. For my midafternoon snack, I'm having.....yogurt.
