Why are the commercials on Food Network for such disgusting, unappetizing food?

Alan likes Alton Brown's shows (Good Eats, Feasting On Asphalt) and whenever we watch them, the commercials for food products are for the nastiest, grossest stuff that Alton wouldn't be caught dead cooking and that we wouldn't eat if Rachael Ray showed up in cute and perky person to cajole us. These are the commercials: Splenda, the only sweetener that leaves an aftertaste like bug repellant; Nature's Own - the bread so soft and squishy you can't spread peanut butter on it, which is really important because the bread itself is utterly tasteless; and finally, Manwich. Sloppy joes in general - horrid, a veritable abomination in burger form, and that canned Manwich goo? The only thing that could make it less palatable would be if, instead of a hamburger bun, one put the Manwich goo between a couple of limp, Play-Doh like slices of Nature's Own, or perhaps stirred in a half-a-cup of boogers and garnished with cauliflower.

But anyway, I was just wondering why a network for epicures wouldn't have decent foodmakers as its sponsors.

Tune in next time, when I shall rant about the hideous, drippy, vapid song that the Nature's Own's marketing trolls have chosen to go with their odious bread.

  • Oh, and another gross thing about Manwich? It sounds like what you would call treats for cannibals, like "man" is what you used to make the sammich. Ick.
