The Hellhole

So far, today has been wonderful. I had an appointment at the spa for a facial and a Swedish massage, from which I emerged feeling fantastic. I'm going to try to go for another massage soon, maybe Saturday after next. I can't do it all the time but it was sooooooooo lovely. I feel so much better, in body, mind and soul.

Kinda funny: at one point, Jepette The Masseuse had me roll over from my stomach to my back. She said, "Whoa, be careful! Don't roll off the massage table!"

I laughed and said, "Boy, you know me well - after only two massages!"

She replied, "No, but I was surprised that you rolled away from me instead of toward me."

"Oh, I didn't know...but that's totally the kind of thing that would happen to me. I'd be on crutches for a month and every time someone asked me what happened, I'd have to answer, 'Unfortunate massage incident'."

Those of you who know me personally know how very likely it would be to find me crippled by an Unfortunate Massage Incident. And wouldn't 'Unfortunate Massage Incident' be a great name for a debut album...

Then lunch at our favorite restaurant and some World Cup viewing. England-United States in a one-all tie?!?!?!?! - I can't be the only person who didn't see that coming. What the hell is up with the U.S. holding England to a tie? I mean, I love me some U.S.A. and all, it's not like I'm unhappy, but still - W.T.F? I blame Ryan Giggs, for having the bad judgment to go around being Welsh.

Here is a list of the various countries I'm pulling for in the World Cup because, although I love my country and am patriotic, I am also realistic. Notwithstanding today's result, the United States is not exactly the football powerhouse that is, say, Brazil. So here are the teams I'm cheering in World Cup, in no particular order:

United States - because I'm American, y'all. And a tie with England! By the U.S.! You don't see that every day...

Ingerland - because of my friends Neil H. and Will

Uruguay - because of my friend Carlos

Argentina - because of my friend Adrian

Mexico - because of my friends Maria and Will (Will's so important he gets mentioned twice)

Brazil - because of my friend Inna and the Lord God Ayrton Senna

Portugal - I just like Portugal. I don't know why.

Now, in the spirit of friendship Alan is further cheering on Côte d'Ivoire because that's who his friend Mo is supporting, because Mo is a fan of Didier Drogba (and Arsenal); while I admire the intent, I'm not sure I can support a team coached by Sven-Goran Ericksson, because of the lingering taint of ManShitty.

  • When it comes to the World Cup, I think that Mitch Benn has pretty much got it nailed as to how it's going to pan out ...

  • You're rooting for Brazil because of a formula one driver? Interesting.
I'm rooting for them too, mostly because I'm brazilian :)

  • Inna, I can't believe I didn't think of that. Editing post now.

  • And will has not had a good start to the world cup. Although he gets a mention twice here, both Mexico and Ingerland draw. And let's never speak of the USA goal.
