XM Satellite Radio just did it to me again. I would SO never pay for it, although I was pleased to get it for free as part of my DirecTV package, but it's not worth spending actual extra dollars because every time I'm happy and all grooving and stuff, and likely to get up and dance about the living room, they play something so incredibly awful that I wonder if I'll ever recover.
Case in point: listening to "Boneyard" and having a great time with Fireball Ministry, Black Label Society, Motorhead (is there anything more meta1 than Lemmy? I think not), Def Leppard (which wasn't, you know, on a par, but didn't suXor), AC/DC, Megadeth...and then what do you think happened? BON JOVI. I'm sorry but even in the "Runaway" days, before he became a non-big-haired wuss, he didn't belong on the same station as LEMMY. Or Dave Mustaine, and if Dave Mustaine is over there giggling, pointing and saying, "What a wuss!" you don't belong on MY stereo, I'm just sayin'.
So I switch to XM Cafe and all is well for a time. Then, Sarah MacLachlan (McLachlan? I'm not sure) doing a remake of The Beatles' "Blackbird", which is just SO FUCKING WRONG on oh so many levels. I had to switch to Squizz, plug in the big ol' badass surround-sound speakers and blast Kid Rock (Cowboy, bay-bee!) to get the taste of Birkenstocks out of my mouth. Alan just came in and is making fun because they're playing Jackyl ("Dirty Little Mind") but I said, "Dude, don't be dissin' Jesse James Dupree. He's no Bon Jovi," to which he replied, "And thank God for that. Point taken."
The only point here is, every time I'm enjoying the heck out of XM Radio, they do something unforgivably heinous. *sigh of relief* Ah, Squizz is playing some Tool. I feel better now.

I love Sarah McLachlan, and the Birkenstock-wearing Indigo Girls, and other folkie/girlie music... it's probably good we're not getting married :)

Heh, and I like Bon Jovi *and* Sarah McLachlan. I think my dream station would have both of them.
We mostly listen to Fred, Ethel, and BPM.

That's cool, Leigh-Ann. You and Flippy can make fun of King Crimson and Lacuna Coil as much as you want. Except last time I saw Robert Fripp, he was wearing wing tips, not Birkenstocks. :-)
Lachele - you said "tool". Heh heh heh hmm-heh!

I said Tool, as well...10,000 Days is the Best. Album.Art. EV-AH! And the music is damn good, too. And Hel-the coolest thing about the last time we saw Robert Fripp? We were close enough to KNOW what his footwear was. And I'll shut up now. As you can all probably imagine, I have a great deal to say about Music:)

I pretty much like any kind of music, although there are lots of popular US groups/songs that I'm not familiar with. Flippy and I think this is a cultural thing, because I specifically barely know any R&B music at all, yet I know all the words to songs like "Scots Wa' Hae" and "Bud the Spud".
I was exposed to a completely different catalogue of music growing up in Canada. I also worked in radio for over a decade, so I was exposed to genres of music from the big band era onward. While in Canada, I produced specialized radio shows of German music, Scottish music, big band, jazz, country, reggae, alternative, "oldies", and even Spanish music when I worked in the US. I actually programmed an R&B/rap station in Albuquerque for a few years, but I was totally in the dark about what I was playing. I couldn't name a song by Earth, Wind, and Fire if you paid me.
So, I won't make fun of you for anything, although I guess my general, daily tastes are quite mainstream. I'm lamenting that I was unable to see the Gin Blossoms yesterday because we had other plans, and I'm already mourning the fact I'll miss Lisa Loeb in July because I have to stay home with my firework-fearing dog.
