This is the end...

Hello to any one reading this blog. This is from Helly's husband, Alan. Helly passed away today, September 1st, 2016, from complications due to liver failure and an infection. She was two weeks shy of her 50th birthday.

Helly was a beloved wife, daughter, sister, niece, aunt, and friend. She will be missed by all that knew her.

Hopefully her blog brought you some amusement over the years. Helly and I actually met through her blog, after I commented on a post about seeing someone drive off from a gas pump with the hose still attached. We were together for 12 years, and had just celebrated our 10th anniversary in May of 2016.

Thanks, and make sure to tell the people that you love how much you love them.
Alan

  • Alan, please, please don't take down the blog. It's really all I have left of Helly. I am sitting here crying (and laughing, because damn, she was funny!), reading, and listening to X and having my own little memorial from the other side of the country. After I lost almost everything six years ago, I stopped staying in regular touch with anyone, thinking that I would have plenty of time for getting reconnected, especially with friends younger than I am. In the last year, I have lost two and almost three, younger female friends. Helly always seemed so strong and feisty, and I was looking forward to our new hockey rivalry...once the new Las Vegas team picked a name.

I, too, met Helly through her blog (and Nancy H's, and mine that only exists on the Wayback Machine), and I would like to keep her around indefinitely if it's okay with you. Maybe some other people will find Helly and enjoy getting to know her through her words, like we did.

I am so sorry for your loss, but so happy that you found each other and got to enjoy many years (not nearly enough) together. I don't know if she ever knew how much she meant to me, but she was one of my favorite people in this world. RIP, awesome chick!

  • I'm so very sorry for your loss, Alan.

I also only knew Helly from afar, she used to write wonderful comments on Nancy H's blog back in the day.

You write "make sure to tell the people that you love how much you love them". Could I add to that: "And be sure to reach out to people you like and admire before it's too late."

  • I have just come to read this news and I am shocked and saddened. Your wife was adorable, and I loved her posts. I didn't check in very often so that is why I am coming here now and just learning of her passing.

My condolences on your loss of such a lovely wife. I know she adored you. It was evident in her posts.

  • It's been a year. How are you doing?

I came across a comment Helly left on my blog 7 years ago, and I was bereft at the thought she was no longer with us.
