There is some sort of anti-uncle conspiracy going on. Friday before last, The Boss was on his way back from his Uncle Robert's funeral when we got the word that Alan's Uncle Payton had died unexpectedly following routine surgery for gallstones. Then over the weekend my friend Rick's uncle died and now my buddy Phil's. C'mon, Fate! Enough with the unclecide!
Uncle Payton's funeral was Tuesday in Augusta, so we left around 7AM and spent the day there. The funeral was pretty short and I kept it together until the very end, when they played his favorite song - he was an Air Force veteran who served during the Korean War.
On the way out the door, I stepped wrong going from our kitchen into the garage (one stair step), rolled my right ankle and skinned my left knee. So I was hobbling about in heels, about to topple over the whole time. The day wasn't all bad, though - we had lunch with Alan's parents, brother, sister and our little niece. Later that afternoon, we took Eliza (the niece) swimming in our friends' pool. It was funny - when Alan told his sister that I'd managed to injure myself, she gasped in horror, "Can she still swim?!?" Swimming is high on Eliza's list of favorite things.
I had previously scheduled vacation days for Thursday and Friday, though we didn't have a trip planned. I just wanted (needed) some time away. Thursday I took Mister Fusspot to the vet for his boosters and checkup, an appointment that had originally been scheduled for Tuesday. After I got home, Alan suggested that I go to the spa Friday for a bit of pampering. It took a lot of convincing (HA!) but that's what I did, a facial and detoxifying back treatment. After that, a couple of errands and a late lunch/early dinner at our favorite Mexican place - mmmmm.
Saturday we went down to Mom's for grillin' and chillin'. She did a pork loin roasted wholly on the grill along with a flatiron steak and portobella mushrooms. To snack on, we had a variety of cheeses and crackers, and a tray full of raw veggies. Fantastic noms. Yesterday some video gaming, and today back to work. That pretty much brings us up-to-date on the latest in my world.
Side note: portobella is one of those words that I am never sure I've spelled correctly. I can't ever decide if it's portobello or portobella, and Blogger's spellcheck dislikes both. I Googled, and the preferred spelling endorsed by the Mushroom Council is "portobella". Maybe I can remember that now that I've blogged about it.
Side side note: here's some astonishing news: there is an official Mushroom Council!

Mmmm, being a part of that Mushroom Council sounds delicious.
Hope the ankle feels better, and I'm sorry for the loss of your uncle.

I'm sorry about all the uncles. I should probably call mine up and make sure they're okay. Your vacation day sounded well spent - glad to hear it. :-) Tell me about the detoxifying back treatment.

I wanna hear about this detoxifying back treatment as well. It sounds very interesting.
Hope you are no longer hobbling and your skinned knee is better. I hate how the scab itches when it heals.
