She's waitin' for me when I get home from work
Oh, but things ain't just the same
She turns out the light and cries in the dark
Won't answer when I call her name
On the stairs I smoke a cigarette alone
Mexican kids are shootin' fireworks below
Hey baby, it's the Fourth of July
Hey baby, it's the Fourth of July
She gives me her cheek when I want her lips
But I don't have the strength to go
On the lost side of town in a dark apartment
We gave up trying so long ago
On the stairs I smoke a cigarette alone
Mexican kids are shootin' fireworks below
Hey baby, it's the Fourth of July
Hey baby, it's the Fourth of July
What ever happened I apologize
So dry your tears and baby
Walk outside, it's the Fourth of July
On the stairs I smoke a cigarette alone
Mexican kids are shootin' fireworks below
Hey baby, it's the Fourth of July
Hey baby, baby take a walk outside
(Bonus Hellhole points and maybe a special prize for the 1st person who knows which of Alan's fave bands recorded this song.)

I've never heard this song before so have no earthly idea, but I'm going to make a wild guess: is it Big Star?

Okay, I googled, and I was very wrong.

Yeah, Nancy, but if I'd posted "Third of July" you'd have been a shoo-in!

Since Alan likes the same XM station as I do, is it X? I never owned anything by them, but always liked them. It's funny, I just heard Los Angeles on the radio the other day...and I was surprised that Leigh-Ann had never heard of X before. Wha??? Of course, I grew up in Los Angeles County, so I had an unfair advantage.

Yes, Flippy! It's X! Before I started dating Alan I'd have told you I hadn't heard of X either, but once he played me a few of their songs, I was like, "Ohhh, THOSE guys!" - recognized the sound immediately and put a name to the band who'd done "Johny Hit And Run Paulene", a song I'd liked for ages.
I just bought him a few new X cds: remastered LA/Wild Gift, Make The Music Go Bang (greatest hits) and one other one, I disremember which.
You win! I'll have to think of a good prize. How about a kitten?

It's taken me a while, but I came back to this entry. :) I wish Blogger allowed people to sign up for notifications of new comments like ExpressionEngine does.
Anyway, that's an excellent prize. How many kittens shall I send? ;)

Ha-HA (Nelson laugh)! Too late! I already sent a prize and it isn't a kitten. Or...maybe...it IS! (dun dun DUNNNNN!)
