Today is a dear, dear friend's birthday! I have a lot of friends with May birthdays: W., who shares the 15th with my kitty-cat, Cheryl who is the 19th, then Nancy starts a streak - she's on the 23rd, Sarah's the 24th and Kathy's the 25th. Of course, I have bought no presents and mailed no cards. I sent one e-card and I bought Cheryl a card about a month ago, but of course now I can't find it so it didn't get mailed on time.
I stink at getting cards/gifts to people on time. What happens is that I'll know at any given moment that, for example, Cheryl's birthday is May 19, but then on Thursday or Friday, it will take me completely by surprise that holy cow! THIS SATURDAY is May 19! I've tried buying stuff in advance, just as I happen to come across something a friend would like, but then I can never remember where I've stuck it, don't want to buy anything else because I want to give the original gift...I hope that when we move I can be better organized about it, perhaps having a designated place for future gifts instead of what I do now, which is putting them anywhere I can find that has space and is out of the way.
On the subject of birthdays, here is a fun link sent to me by my father-in-law where you can see what the #1 song was on the day you were born. Er, actually it works for anniversaries or any other day, for that matter, but I guess most people are curious about their birthday. My father-in-law has the best one so far: In The Mood, by Glenn Miller. Mine was Harper Valley P.T.A. by Jeannie C. Riley and Alan's was something by Bobby Vinton - because really, if it was Bobby Vinton, does it matter what song? We've already established that Alan loses the cool birthday song competition. What is yours?
Here is some fun with Google maps: go here and zoom all the way in. Or go here, use the "Get Directions" option, type in New York City as the starting point and London as the destination. Step #21 is the best.
And here are the beautiful roses my husband sent me for our anniversary.
Happy Birthday, May friends one and all!

"Jack and Diane" by John Cougar! Lol, I love that song.
With an open bar, beggars can't be choosers, or I'd have definitely been sipping on a frozen margarita with a salt-rim :)

Thanks for the card. It was great!

"When A Man Loves A Woman" by
Percy Sledge. I think I did pretty well with that one. Do I win anything?
By Anonymous Me, at 10:11 AM
That IS a pretty good one. You might win something - we'll have to see if anyone has a better one.

Here are our bday songs:
Lisa's bday: "(You're My) Soul and Inspiration" by The Righteous Brothers
Kevin's bday: "Help" by The Beatles
Ally's bday: "Faith" by George Michael
But the one that cracked me up was our anniversary (10-31-93):
"I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)" by Meat Loaf
Lisa :)

Leigh-Ann found that link a couple of weeks ago and I was all excited about it...until I found both of our birthdays, and they were BOTH Beatles' songs. Neither of us like the Beatles, even though we really enjoyed the LOVE Cirque du Soleil show. So, we win for lack of creativity. As an aside, when I was a youngster, I used to think Bobby Vinton was cute.
And your roses were very pretty...and girly. :)

Ha, Lisa, on the anniversary song! It turns out our anniversary song is "S.O.S." by Rihanna. I'm not familiar with the song, but "S.O.S." alone cracks me up!
Flippy, I need more information. Did either of the Beatles songs have funny connections, like yours was "A Hard Day's Night" and you kept your mom in labour all night? (I'm presuming neither of you were born in yellow submarines.)
By Helly, at 7:20 AM
Leigh-Ann's was "We Can Work It Out" and mine was "Hard Day's Night", and even though I was born at 7:33am, I haven't heard any stories about a lengthy labor. I would've enjoyed "Yellow Submarine" more, I believe. I think I was just bitter that we both had Beatles songs. Apparently I was in a frivolous mood that day, because getting pissy about the #1 song on the day of your birth is kind of weird.

Ha, that's kind of funny that out of all available Beatles songs, I randomly picked the correct one.
I don't know that I was exactly pissy, but I was kinda disappointed that my song wasn't cooler, so I understand.

I've since found out that THREE MORE friends have May birthdays: Sandy on the 17th, Basil on the 28th and Michelle on the 31st! August was a busy month.
