HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, DARLING!
We spent most of the weekend doing various things to celebrate our first wedding anniversary, although we also did some minor home improvements - just some “finishing touches”-type stuff. After our chores were done, Saturday night we rewarded ourselves with a lovely dinner at Michelangelo, the restaurant where our rehearsal dinner was held; we couldn’t go there on the actual anniversary date (today!) because they are closed Sunday/Monday. As usual, I had the house specialty, Veal Michelangelo, and Alan had rack of lamb. I’m sure all the other entrees are wonderful and each time we go there, I try to talk myself into trying something new, but that veal is so fabulous, I always end up getting that anyway. He does the same thing with the rack of lamb. Our waitress remembered us; we were talking casually about “can you believe that was a year ago?” When she realized we were celebrating, she told us to save room for dessert because it was on the house. I thought that was very nice of her - kind gestures mean a lot.
Yesterday we went to Borders so I hope to be posting a few book reviews, although I spent less than $100 - not an easy task for me in a bookstore. We stopped by Yankee Candle where Alan bought me some scented goodies including a big jar candle in the “Wedding Day” scent, votives of which we gave away as wedding favours. We have a theme going here.
On our first date, we did the standard ‘dinner and a movie’. The dinner was casual at Applebee’s and the movie was Shrek 2. So after our shopping excursion, we went to a matinee of Shrek 3 and had dinner afterward at Applebee’s. Although I thought this movie was the weakest of the three, that shouldn't imply that I didn't enjoy it. I liked the movie a lot; great voice acting, very funny, again lots of inside jokes if you look for them: everything from “The Six Million Dollar Man” to “Rosemary’s Baby” references. Also, it has Eric Idle as a hippie Merlin - gotta love that. I’m sure we’ll pick up a copy when it’s out on DVD, both because it’s worth a repeat viewing and to complete our collection.
After all the various celebratory goings-on at the weekend, we have nothing planned for today. Between work, commuting and needing to get up early tomorrow for more of the same, it made more sense to do most of our celebrating this weekend. But whether we go out or cook a nice dinner at home, tonight will be great because we’ll be together.
P.S. As always when I’m glowing with satisfaction at having such a wonderful, intelligent, thoughtful, handsome husband: a thousand thanks to Nancy, our lovely matchmaker!

Indeed, Happy Anniversary!
When I become senile, how will you know? Guess what I DIDN'T buy at World Market? That's right! A backscratcher....
