The Hellhole

Our AC is fixed and functioning, for now anyway. It seems that the last time this company did a repair, they didn't do it quite as well as they should have. Some valves weren't tightened enough so, over time, all the coolant leaked out of the unit. Once it was recharged and the valves properly tightened, it happily chugged away and we're cool again. This is a good thing because next week is predicted to be very hot and humid. I hope that nothing further goes awry and we can close this chapter of AC adventures.

My newest installment of skanky neighbors, who moved into the house vacated by the Door-Slammin' Family From Outer Space, have this oddity: they are constantly bustling around outside and in their carport, seemingly doing work on the house and property, yet nothing looks any different from one week to the next. They created a new pile of crap (wood, carpet, etc.) in the carport but that's about it. I'm too lazy to go outside this early to take a picture, but trust me: it still looks EXACTLY like this. Crap like the broken microwave is still lying in the yard. Even better, the yellow caution tape I wound around the shed back in September is still there, but because it was hanging there all winter through storms and winds, it's falling down in places (as seen in the photo). So someone is living there, but hasn't felt motivated to yank down caution tape encircling their shed. I have no idea what they are so busily bustling about doing, because there has been no visible improvement to the state of the property.

Okay, I just looked out the window to check and that last statement isn't entirely true. They have added the lovely enhancement of leaning sheets of warped plywood against their back fence.

I have to work only 1/2 day today. One of The Boss's companies is hosting a golf tournament for its biggest client and even though I don't play golf, The Boss has summoned me to join them for lunch and the post-tournament activities. I'm not that social, really, and I am uncomfortable making small talk with people I don't know, but I'm looking forward to it nonetheless. Today is supposed to be gorgeous weather and hanging out on a country club terrace sipping Diet Coke sounds pretty spiff. Especially getting paid for it.

  • I'm so glad to hear about the AC! I was concerned about the 4 of you but felt sure you'd call if you wanted a cool place to crash.

I am also glad to hear you get to hang out at the country club and relax (to a certain degree). Good ol Boss - he's a goodun!
