Adventures in Drunken Blogging, Day Two

Today we had a lovely day, slept late, at a scrumptious breakfast at one of the restaurants downstairs (Eggs Benedict for me, pancakes, sausage and hash browns for Alan), wandered around the casino, bet a buck in the slots and won $10, went for a lovely walk around the pools and gardens. Since we were around on that side of the complex, we thought we'd go to the Shark Reef, but the line stretched halfway through the convention center, so that was out. We did a circuit of the shops at Mandalay Place and stopped for a treat at The Chocolate Swan (peanut butter cheesecake for Alan, raspberry cheesecake for me). Wandering around the casino again, we stopped at the big central bar for a drink (ginger ale for Alan, vodka tonic for me) so we could watch the last bit of the Redwings - Predators game - Redwings won.

We continued this for a bit, just generally wandering around, looking at the scenery and playing a slot machine or two when the mood struck us. We went back up to our room to relax for a bit, then it was time to meet Flippy and Leigh-Ann for the X concert at House of Blues! YAY!

Flippy has a bad back so she'd called ahead to ask about handicapped seating (the show was general admission, standing room only) and they'd told her she could and that one person could sit with her, so that's when Leigh-Ann decided that she'd come, too. She's not a big enough fan of X that standing for hours held any appeal for her. When we got there, though, they didn't want to let anyone sit with Flippy, which was unacceptable. One of the ushers said that if we cared to purchase a table (said in a tone like we probably couldn't afford to) there was VIP seating still available. Well, shit, dawg! That's all you needed to say! If I'd known that in the first place, we'd have had a table all along. Alan doesn't have a bad back, but wasn't really looking forward to moshing; it was only his fondness for X that compelled him - he'd never have considered it for a lesser band. I ran back upstairs and 2 minutes later, the snooty usher was being very nice to us and unclipping the fiber rope (I liked it better when they used red velvet instead of that black woven plastic-y stuff) and we were all sitting down, comfy and uncrowded! Yay!

The concert was fabtastic! The acoustics in the House of Blues are great and I was happy that they played a bunch of songs I knew. I only knew one or two X songs pre-Alan and I'd been listening to their greatest hits CD for a while, but I wasn't familiar with the entire canon. Still, there was only 1 song I didn't recognize and I shouted out the words to "Los Angeles" and "Johny Hit and Run Paulene" with the best of them.

After the show we had a late dinner at Raffles (casual restaurant in Mandalay Bay) with the girls. I had spinach/artichoke dip and chips, good nutrition being the cornerstone of my life, and stole some of Flippy's fries. She was cool about it, though. We're meeting them for Bellagio lunch buffet Monday - double-yay!
