So, yesterday I worked for a while and then headed for The Boss's country club to nosh and hang out with him. I love it when that's on my list of duties for the day. After our meeting and lunch, I rode with him to drop off a bunch of sports equipment, kids' clothes, kids' toys and household stuff that he was donating to the church. When I got back to the office, I found that Alan had not been having as pleasant a day.
Excerpted from Actual Alan E-Mail™:
"I sent you an email from my cell phone about us having a fire drill. Hopefully you got that, and a picture of one (of the four) fire trucks that showed up. And a Cobb County PD, and an ambulance.
What happened was that a laptop caught on fire in the conference room on our floor. So someone took it, still burning, to one of the two stairwells (aka fire exits), and hit it with a fire extinguisher. This set off the fire alarms, so we had to evacuate. Of course, we had to get diverted off our usual stairwell to the other stairwell, and ended up standing in the hallway of the 4th floor for about 5 minutes while the doorway to the stairwell was opened. Once downstairs, we stood out in the sun sweating and roasting while the fire department did whatever it is that they do.
After getting the all clear, I waited my turn for the elevator. Once I got on, with about 9 other people, the elevator got stuck for about 10 minutes. That was a lot of fun… Not. After we finally got off the elevator, I had to take the stairs to get back to the 5th floor. Alan + Stairs == hot and sweaty. So, how was your day, honey?"
Eeep! Poor guy.

Poor Alan! For me, being stuck in the elevator would have been the worst part.
