The Hellhole

This is what's been keeping me busy lately - putting hardwood floors throughout most of my house (everywhere but bedrooms/bathrooms). Besides that picture link, there are some before-and-after shots of my kitchen, which was the project for the previous weekend. It's not that hard to do, at least not with my parents helping; my dad cut all the boards that were tricky and/or curvy, like to go around doorframes, Mom kept Sprocket from "helping", which he intensely wanted to do, then Alan ferried tools and boards to me, helped wedge them into place, and held them steady while I crawled around on the floor pounding boards into submission gently tapping boards into place.

Next is the long room across the front of the house, meant to be a living room/dining room combo, but in which I keep the pool table, the dartboard, the stereo and other fun stuff. The major work on that room won't be the floor itself; it will be moving all the crap out of that room in order to get to the floor. I'll be glad when it's finished.

Having a wooden floor in place of carpets has done wonders for my allergies/respiratory problems. I had to take a Zyrtec Saturday, because we were stirring up lots of dust, but except for that day, I haven't had an allergy pill in ten days. Normally I have to take one per day and oftentimes am still miserable. Once we start looking for a new house, we are definitely going to search for something with hardwood floors on a large portion of the home, if not throughout.

That's about it...I shall probably win "Most Boring Blog Entry" for today, so the rest of you need not even try.

  • Not boring at all... I soooo want to get rid of the carpet in my house. It's great to live vicariously through you on this.

    No, I'm not kidding.

    The floor looks beautiful!
